Hi, I'm Rebecca Peragine, the artist for Art &
Philanthropy. I started my collage and altered imagery
career at a super young age. My breakthrough piece,
"Globe" was created when I was 15, by using my
father's garage paint which was applied liberally onto
my bedroom wall. Sadly, it was not a success (I was
soooo grounded). But despite all the bad reviews, I
picked myself up and continued my passion by altering
everything from canvas to books, furniture, even
report cards. Looking for adventure, I packed up and
moved to an island in Mexico to open a coffee shop
and, of course, create more art (A very important fact
because this is where Art and Philanthropy was born).
Seven years later I'm back in Wisconsin, where I was
raised, to a lovely home in the woods. I now shares my
life with my husband and two sons, Giovanni and
Matteo (who happen to be my creative consultants,
editors and muses for my kids art). I've been kind of a
jack of all trades when it comes to art, bouncing from
painting to jewelry to metals to body products.....I think
I tried pottery for a day. Anyway, this particular form of
collage art happened by accident, thanks to my son,
Giovanni. A year back, we moved to a new home and
he was afraid to sleep alone in his new room. So I
pulled out whatever art supplies I had available
(everything was still in boxes) and I made him a
"protector dinosaur". Well, the idea grew and grew,
and here we are today. Art and Philanthropy is alive
and kickin, creating art for great grassroots
organizations, and raising them a little money.
Currently, I'm most likely trying to finish my next
masterpiece, which won't happen until I find my
scissors (which are under a pile of laundry, of course).
